Afia Sarfo Receives Biology Department Research Fellowship

The Opulente Lab is excited to announce that Master's student Afia Sarfo has been awarded the Biology Department Research Fellowship. Afia's research focuses on interactions between opportunistic yeasts and the host immune system. Using macrophage infection assays, she is investigating how clinical and environmental isolates of Candida tropicalis survive and replicate within immune cells. Her work aims to better understand the traits associated with pathogenicity and the ecological factors that influence host-microbe interactions.
